Final Course Reflection

Throughout this semester in Digital Media, I learned about how to create different types of digital art. I learned how to edit photos, create my own song, and video.  I also learned about how to create digital art using my own 2D drawings and paintings to create a new digital version of it. I have improved my knowledge in digital media and learned how to use different software’s, such as Soundation, PixlrX, and ScribblerToo, among many others.  I learned that digital art can be very time consuming and requires a lot of thought and planning, but is worth it when the work is complete in the end. The skills that I have accomplished in this class was learning how to create my own mashup video, song, and creating 2D artwork from different software’s.  I have had experience with editing photos before this class, but I think I have only enhanced my editing skills using PixlrX. The skills I think I still need to develop more include song and video making, since this was the first time

Vector Graphics: Logo Designs

This week in Digital Media we learned about vector-based graphics.  Vector graphics are used to create digital illustrations and connects points by lines.  For this week’s assignment, we had to create two different logo designs for our blog theme. Since my blog is titled “The Crafty DIY Blog,” I wanted to create a logo that represented crafts in a simplistic way.  For my first logo, I used the software Vectr .  I created a vector graphic of a ball of yarn using the ellipse and pencil tool.  I made the ball of yarn a light blue/aqua color to give it a peaceful look to it.  I used the font “Crafty Girls” for my text because I thought it fit my blog theme perfectly and it matched the original font I used for my blog title, which I was very happy about.  I liked using Vectr mainly because it gave me more font options than Method Draw did and I get the sense that it’s a craft/DIY blog from my logo.  However, the layout for the page was more challenging to use than on Method Draw for zo

Text-Based Art

For this week’s assignment in Digital Media, we learned about text-based art. Text-based art is art that is created by text – meaning that the text can form a work of art.  We had to use six software’s (GlassGiant ASCII Art generator, Text-Image, WordArt, Textorizer 1, Textorizer 2, and Exocoffizer) to create different types of text based art.  This was probably one of my favorite assignments we had to do because I enjoyed using the software's and including my own artwork in it.  For all the text based artworks I created, I was trying to create a theme that represented my love for art and school.   The first software I used was GlassGiant’s ASCII Art generator .  I used my first oil painting I made in my Painting class last year for this piece.  It is a still life of a shoe, book, and bottle.  It had a width of 100 and small font when it was converted.    Reference Drawing  HTML format ASCII format  Matrix format The second software I used was Text-Ima

Generative Art

This week we learned about generative art in digital media.  Generative art is digital art made by using an online software.  For our assignment, we had to use the software ScribblerToo and Flame to create four images – two from each software.   Girl with Hair Ribbon  Rainbow Rubik's Cube  Comparisons to reference pictures:      For the ScribblerToo drawings, we had to use an image for as a reference for one drawing and have a sense of volume for our second drawing.  In my first drawing, I used Roy Lichtenstein’s  Girl with Hair Ribbon , 1965 as my reference.  I came across that image when looking for Pop Art images because I like Pop Art and wanted to use a 2-dimensional painting for my drawing reference.  For my image, I didn’t use a big brush size because I wanted it to look very similar to the painting, in addition to adding my own style to it.  Instead of trying to make the colored dots on the girl’s face, eyes, and lips, I just used one solid color to

The Sunset Collection

This DIY is fun if you want to create a collection of the same pattern/design on different materials.  I named my collection “The Sunset Collection” because the three pieces that I created had a sunset picture on them.  I had a lot of fun working on this DIY project and was very happy with how it turned out.  To begin the collection, I first went through an old moon calendar that I had and looked at which pictures I wanted to try to paint on my own.  I came across this pink/purple sunset picture, which I thought was breathtaking.  I was set on trying to paint my own design of it and began my first piece.  The first sunset painting I did was on an old bedroom sign that I had.  It was a long white horizontal wooden sign that said, “Lila’s Room” in pink marker.  I tried to use sandpaper to remove as much as I could and then painted a layer of white on it.  Once I let that dry, I painted my sunset design and transformed my bedroom design.  It now hangs above my calend

DIY Bracelets

This DIY is great if you like wearing bracelets.  I created this DIY because I like wearing bracelets and I thought it would be cool to make it out of sleeves from old t-shirts that I had.     I first started off by going through the old shirts I had and picked which sleeves I wanted to use as bracelets.     I cut off the sleeves I wanted and cut it down to where it stopped by my wrist.   For the first bracelet I made, I used a plain pink sleeve and glued the edges that I cut to create the bracelet.  I made sure that the fabric could fit on my wrist and could be easily taken off.  Once the bracelet fit, I then took another old shirt I had, cut out a peace design I liked and glued it on top of the bracelet to add some color to it.  I later added beads on the ends of the bracelet from a beading technique I learned how to do in my Senior Humanities class.   For the second bracelet I made, I repeated the same process I did for the first bracelet, but used diffe

Desk Organizer

The previous DIY organizer I made was specifically for storing your pencils and papers.  This DIY is a desk organizer that you can use to store bigger items that you may have.  For mine, I stored some of my art supplies and small notebooks that I would need to use frequently.  This DIY Desk Organizer was inspired by the art/crafty YouTubers, JENerationDIY (Jennifer) and SoCraftastic (Sarah).    To start off this DIY, I first collected all the boxes I would need to store my supplies.  The big cardboard box was a bigger version of the frozen pizza box I used for my Telephone Table Organizer.  Inside of it, I inserted four boxes and one piece of cardboard that I used as line divider to make more compartment space.  I forgot what three of the boxes used to be, but the small magazine holder was another granola box that I used to store my small notebooks.  Once I gathered all my boxes and figured out how I wanted to arrange them, I then decorated all the boxes.
